Brief History of Tujunga, CA
Between La Crescenta and Sunland California lies the district of Tujunga. Although considered to be in the upper right corner of the San Fernando Valley, it technically lies in the Cresenta Valley. Tujunga has a very interesting past. On what was once indian land for the Tongva tribe, a quirky little group in the early 1900s founded a utopian colony following the socialist beliefs of William Smythe. Their slogan was “A little Land and a Lot of Living”. This group lasted about 15 years, but to this day, Tujunga marches to a different drummer. Because Tujunga is in the foothills of the San Gabriel and Verdugo mountains, outdoor, and especially equistrian activities reign supreme. Grab your horse and let’s go to Tujunga!
