Brief History of Twentynine Palms, CA
The City of Twentynine Palms is located in San Bernardino County. Twentynine Palms is situated east of San Bernardino, between Barstow and Blythe. Twentynine Palms got its name because there were 29 palm trees growing in the oasis when gold miners arrived in the late nineteenth century. The first recorded exploration of Twentynine Palms, California was made by Colonel Henry Washington in 1855. Twentynine Palms served as a rest stop for wagon travelers until the community esta blished in the 1920’s. Twentynine Palms officially incorporated in 1987.
