Brief History of Marysville, CA
Marysville is the county seat of Yuba County. John Sutter leased the land, on which Marysville is situated, to Theodore Cordua. He raised livestock on the land and in 1843 he built a home and trading post. Cordua received additional land from the Mexican government in 1844. In 1848, Cordua’s former employee bought half of the Cordua Ranch. Two men, Michael Nye and William Foster, bought the other half in 1849.
During the Gold Rush, Marysville became the point of debarkation for riverboats from San Francisco and Sacramento filled with miners on their way to dig sites. By 1850 the four partners hired Augustus Le Plongeon to create a plan for a town. Marysville and Wheatland are the only incorporated cities in Yuba County.
