Brief History of Woodland, CA
Woodland is a city in Yolo County, as well as the county seat. Only fifteen miles away, Woodland is a suburb of Sacramento. Before the settlement of Europeans, Woodland was mainly populated by the Poo-e-win, a dialect group of the Hill Patwin Native Americans. The Native Americans had a main trading trail which followed Cache Creek near today’s Davis, California. The incorporation of Woodland occurred in 1871.
The California Pacific Railroad Company constructed a line between Davis and Marysville with a Woodland station in the area. Eventually the line was expanded and acquired by Southern Pacific Railroad. This addition led to the expansion of Woodland as a town.
