Brief History of Indiana-

Indiana is situated in the Midwestern region of the country. The Union admitted Indiana as the 19 th U.S. state.

The Chicago metropolitan area has nearly one million residents and is part of the northwest corner of the state. The efficient commuter suburbs of Chicago include Gary and the cities that make up the northern half of Lake, Porter and La Porte Counties bordering on Lake Michigan. The Grand Calumet and Little Calumet rivers run through the area. Because of this people often refer to Porter and Lake counties as the “The Calument Region” or “The Region” for short. Indiana’s motto is the, “The Crossroads of America.” This is due to the numerous Interstates and U.S. highways that interstate in Indiana. Anderson , Avon, Beech Grove, Bloomington, Brownsburg, Carmel, Castleton, Clermont, Columbus, Crawfordsville, Cumberland, Danville, Fishers, Franklin, Greenwood, Greenfield, Homecroft, Kokomo, Lafayette, Lawrence, Lebanon, Mooresville, Muncie, Noblesville, Plainfield, Richmond, Southport, Speedway, Terre Haute, West Lafayette, and Zionsville are some of the cities located within the area.

The south-central corner of Indiana is home to the third largest city in the state, Evansville. Evansville is in the tri-state area that includes Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. Some of Indiana’s south central cities such as Clarksville, Jeffersonville, and New Albany are a part of the Louisville metropolitan area.

The Wabash River holds the oldest city in the state of Indiana, Vincennes. The surrounding hills and bright foliage make Brown county an eminent area in Indiana. The Wyandotte, Marengo, and Squire Boones Caverns are Indiana’s most popular commercial caves which are located in the Harrison and Crawford Counties.
