Brief History of Iowa-
Iowa became the 29 th state to be admitted into the Union on December 28, 1846. Iowa was named after the Ioway people, a Siouan tribe of Native Americans that inhabited the area.
The Sac and Fox tribes were the first to inhabit the land we now know as Iowa. The first Europeans to explore Iowa were French citizens, but on June 1833 the fist American settlers officially resided in this Midwestern region of the U.S. Most families migrated from other states such as Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri. The Union had Iowa’s complete support during the American Civil War. Numerous Armies and Eastern cities received large quantities of food from Iowa. The Civil War brought a dramatic increase to Iowa’s population. In 1917 the country entered WWI, which meant a significant change for the farmers in Iowa and other states throughout the nation. The beginning of the war brought economic prosperity to the Iowan farmers. Then after WWII Iowa experienced an increase in manufacturing operations. Agriculture is Iowa’s dominant industry, but the production of mechanical products is in high demand.
