Brief History of Louisiana-
The State of Louisiana is located in the southern region of the nation. Baton Rouge is Louisiana’s capital. New Orleans happens to be the largest city and metropolitan area in the state. Parishes are local governments equivalent to counties. Louisiana is the only state that is divided into parishes. Jefferson Parish is the largest parish by population. Alexandria is a city in Louisiana and the parish seat of Rapides Parish. It lies on the south bank of the Red River in almost the exact geographic center of the state. Bossier City is a city in Bossier Parish, Louisiana. Bossier City is closely tied to its larger sister city Shreveport, located on the western bank of the Red River. The Shreveport-Bossier City metropolitan area is the center of the region known as the Ark-La-Tex.
Cameron Parish and Lake Charles were few of the many towns that were flooded during Hurricane Rita, on September 24, 2005. Many other parishes and cities along the coast were flooded, including southwestern Louisiana.
