Brief History of Nebraska-
Nebraska is a leading farming and ranching state, even though it was one day considered to be part of the Great American Desert. Some people like to refer to Nebraskans as “Cornhuskers.” The name Nebraska derives from a Chiwere word that means “flat water.” The Great Plains of the Midwestern United States is home to the state known as Nebraska.
The federal government granted free land in the 1860’s. This brought a huge wave of homesteaders into Nebraska. Many of them had to build their homes out of sod because there were very few trees on the grassy land. The Kansas and Nebraska Territory was divided by the Parallel 40° North, on May 30, 1854, due to the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
Nebraska has an official soft drink, which is Kool-Aid. Edwin Perkins created it in 1927, in the city of Hastings. There is an annual event that takes place on the second weekend of every August, to celebrate the discovery. Clifton Hillegass invented Cliffs Notes in Rising City. His idea was based on the Canadian idea, “Coles Notes.”
