Brief History of Nevada-

Nevada is a state located in the western region of the United states of America. The capital is Carson City and the largest city in Las Vegas. The nickname “the Silver State” was given to Nevada, due to the discovery of numerous silver deposits. Nevada separated for the Utah Territory on March 2, 1861, becoming the 36 th state admitted into the Union on October 31, 1864. Until Nevada achieved its current boundaries on May 5, 1866, Pah-Ute County and most of Clark County belonged to the Arizona Territory west of the Colorado River. Over 85% of the population resides in the metropolitan areas around Las Vegas and Reno. According to the 2000 Census, Las Vegas is the most populous city in Nevada with a population of 478,434. Clark County is the most populated county with a population of 1,375,765. The name Nevada is derived from the Spanish word Nevada, which means “snow capped.”

Since 1931, tourism, particularly entertainment and legalized gaming, have become increasingly vital to Nevada's economy. In 1909, unregulated gambling was outlawed as part of a nation wide anti-gaming crusade. Then on March 1931, Nevada re-legalized gambling as a result to subsequent declines in mining output and the decline of agricultural sector during the Great Depression. The leading proponents of gambling expected it be a short term fix for Nevada’s economy. However, the gambling industry has become Nevada’s primary source of revenue. The Hoover Dam, located outside Las Vegas near Boulder City, was constructed between 1932–1935.The construction of the dam required thousands of workers. Many of them came from throughout the country. Federal legislation enacted in 1986 created the first national park in the state, the Great Basin National Park, which includes the area around Wheeler Peak and Lehman Caves in Eastern Nevada.
