Brief History of Ohio-

Ohio was inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Shawnee, Miamis, Iroquois, and the Wyandots. During the 1700’s is when people from New England began to settle in Ohio. Ohio did not have an official date of admittance in to the Union. Although Congress never passed a resolution formally admitting Ohio as the 17 th state, on February 19, 1803, President Jefferson signed an act of Congress that approved Ohio’s constitution and boundaries. It wasn’t until August 7, 1953 that President Eisenhower signed an act that officially declared March 1, 1803 as the date of Ohio’s admittance into the Union.

Columbus, Ohio’s capital, is located towards the center of the state. Most of Ohio’s center of population is located in Morrow County, which is the County seat of Mount Gilead. Dayton is home to the Wright State University which was honorably named after the Wright brothers. Ohio is where the Wright brothers invented the airplane after many failed attempts.

The Fortune list of 2007 states that Ohio had 28 Fortune 500 companies and 60 Fortune 1000 companies. Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland have 5 or more 500 Companies and ranked 2 nd behind Texas.
