Brief History of Oregon-
Oregon Joined the Union on February 14, 1859 as the 33rd state. Recently , the region was part of the Oregon Territory that was created in 1848 after American settlement began in earnest in the 1840s.
Oregon 's population is largely concentrated in the Willamette Valley, which stretches from Eugene, home of the University of Oregon and second largest city in Oregon, through Salem the capital and the third largest city, and Corvllis home of Oregon State University to Portland which is the largest city in Oregon. Oregon city was Oregon Territory's first incorporated city, and its first capital, until 1852,when the capital was moved to Salem. Also the end of the Oregon Trail and the site of the first public library established, west of the Rocky Mountains, stocked only 300 volumes. Near the geographic center of the state, is one of the ten fastest growing metropolitan areas in the United States to the part of the state.
Salem the state's third most populated city, is the state capital, while the most populous city is Portland. Oregon's largest private employers is intel. located in the Silicon Force area in Portland's western suburbs. Nike is the only fortune 500 headquartered in the state of Oregon.
