Brief History of Washington-
Washington is the only state that has been named after a U.S. president. “Washingtonians along with the rest of the nation, will never forget George Washington. There are people that confuse Washington with the U.S. capital, Washington D.C. In order to distinguish the two, people sometimes call it the State of Washington or Washington state.
Europeans were the first to explore Washington. 1775 was the first recorded landing by Spanish Captain Don Bruno de Heceta. He was on board the Santiago, part of a two ship flotilla with the Sonora.
The Yakima region and the Wenatchee-Okanogan region are areas where apple crop growing is at its highest. The Yakima region includes counties such as Kittitas, Benton, and Yakima. Chelan, Okanogan, Douglas, and Grant counties are a part of the Wenatchee-Okanogan region. The Apple industry plays a vital role in Washington.
